ne would never guess that Pharmacist James McCoy studied oceanography at Texas A & M University before deciding that he could stay in the sciences and help people at the same time. A native of Haskell, Texas, where he graduated from high school, James knew that he wanted to be in some science feld. His dad, Gerald McCoy, was a biology teacher in Haskell which infuenced his decision.

He studied oceanography at Texas A & M University before graduating from Abilene Christian University with a degree in biology in 1978. While at ACU, he met and married Debbie Jiviven. In 1981, James graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University as a licensed pharmacist.

Returning to Abilene, James worked hard and opened his frst pharmacy on Judge Ely Boulevard in 1998 and his second pharmacy on Antilley Road in 2006. With four children, James stayed active with his family and community. He served as PTA President at Taylor Elementary, served on the boards of the American Red Cross, Taylor County Child Advocacy Center, and Hope Haven. He also has been asked to serve on several city committees. James has spent numerous hours reading to elementary students at Taylor and Thomas schools. He has coached with the Abilene Youth Basketball Association for several years.
