Coach Reisman has been a signifcant part of our athletic history, and we are extraordinarily proud of him. Under his leadership, Tarleton has won more games in the last 11 years than all but four other teams in the country. Coach Reisman is a principled, disciplined teacher, who demands a lot from his players -- on the court and in life. His players are members of an extended family, who remain loyal to their coach and their alma mater.”
When asked how he unwinds after a game, Reisman replies, “I believe that’s the frst time I’ve been asked that question. It’s probably around 4 or 5
a.m. after the game before I go to bed. I really don’t sleep real well until the following night. My family is a great help to me. They attend many games, and they are among my most loyal fans. Their encouragement and advice mean so much to me.”
Commenting about the Texan Club, Reisman smiles and says, “We’ve had tremendous help from local people and other individuals in the area. We started with only eight corporate sponsors in 1993. At the present time we have more than 200 corporate sponsors. We have the largest booster club in the Lone Star Conference, and the ffth largest among NCAA, Division II universities in the nation.”
David Tomlinson, one of the key persons in organizing the Texan Club
in the early 1990s, has his thoughts on Reisman. Tomlinson explains, “Lonn is a humble man. The number of wins doesn’t mean as much to him as the welfare of his players and the students at Tarleton. He is most sincere, and the players and students respect him.” Tomlinson recently served his second time as President of the Texan Club. His frst term was in the club’s beginning in 1994.
Looking to the future, the 56-year-old Reisman says, “I would like for Tarleton to have at least one national champion in a sport in the next few years. The major thing in coaching is educating the student not just on the feld of play, but in the classroom. My basic job is to help students at the ‘game of life.’ ” ECL
