Some of the most important aspects Maggie learned from her time in the military are simpler and universally understandable than one might think. “There are a lot of benefcial things I learned from the military, and it is really hard to name just one. If I really think about it, I guess the most valuable tool I learned was confdence in myself and my intellectual abilities,” Maggie explained. Encouraging perks for joining the military are a constant and steady paycheck, free health care, and paid vacation. However, Maggie explains that many of the perks lay outside the incentive of the vocation.
“The more spiritual, or personal perks
are the fact that you know you are an essential, crucial part of something bigger than yourself. You know that, regardless of the type of position you have, you are a part of making the country's military mighty, and are also a part of creating military history.”
Understandably, servicemen and women stationed at Goodfellow, especially for frst time military personnel, establish meaningful, lifelong relationships. Sometimes, like for Maggie and her husband, you might even meet your spouse. Both parties are enjoying their time in San Angelo, although it is very different from how they both grew up.
“We are happy we got stationed here in San Angelo, partly because we met here in 2004, and partly because it is a nice location…San Angelo was a big culture shock for both of us. We are from the east coast and big metropolitan areas on the east coast. There is a lot of cultural and
