Kalin Elston recently stepped down as the group’s vice-president. He remembers Perez was the driving force behind the Stephenville Cruisers. “Israel had been in some car clubs in his past, when he was younger,” Elston said. “The Lord started putting that on his heart, and he started talking to me about it. We were praying about it. He was the one who kept pushing it.” He remembers a group of four from Stephenville’s Cornerstone Assembly of God Church who were in on the formation of the group.
“Israel kept talking to me and Pat Schultz, the secretary of our club, and Daniel Brock, our treasurer. The four of us were kind of in on it from the ground foor,” Elston said. “We were talking about it for a couple of years. “ They traveled to Cowtown to get a glimpse into the logistics of forming their own club.
“The Fort Worth chapter helped us a lot, even with our frst show,” Elston said. “They brought their cars, and tried to make our show bigger the frst time to make more money. They showed us how to judge, how they do things.” “The Fort Worth Chapter of Christian Classic Cruisers kind of led us into it,” Perez explained. “We still operate under their chapter, but we’re in the process of getting fully affliated as a solo chapter.”
