most of the members one day last year. What were my thoughts as I left the hospital after that visit? Most of these people lead busier lives now as volunteers than they did when they held full-time jobs. You can see the joy on their faces when they talk about the auxiliary and the part it plays in their lives. They are especially proud of the newly decorated outpatient waiting room and each of them spoke with love and respect for Mrs. Elders, the frst of them to pass away since the dedication of their waiting room. They also talk about what joy it gives them to be able to brighten someone’s day and about wanting to make a difference in someone’s life. I think they can all rest assured that they have made a difference and continue to make a difference on a daily basis. I feel very humble to have been allowed to visit with them and hear them talk about what they have done, what they are doing, and what their plans are for the future. Remember, most of these people are in their 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and none of them even talks about giving up their work in the auxiliary!
If you should happen to be in The Doctors Hospital of Tattnall in the near future and a cheery voice welcomes you as you enter, remember the awesome job these volunteers are doing and thank them for being so kind and caring. I am sure your heart will be touched as mine was. They certainly exemplify the words from Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” TCM
